Event Overview:
The Göttingen minipig has been used for years as the standard nonrodent nonclinical model in the development of dermal products. While the similarities between minipig and human skin are well established, the GI tract, cardiovascular, urogenital, and respiratory systems of the minipig are also similar to those of the human, making the minipig a desirable nonrodent model in development of therapeutics delivered by routes other than dermal. In addition, the minipig is often the nonrodent model of choice among European Sponsors because of ethical concerns over the use of dogs and nonhuman primates. Based on these points, the Göttingen minipig is a well-established model that can be used in all aspects of nonclinical research and is accepted by regulatory authorities.
