Urinary Incontinence in Women (American College of Physicians PIER)
Because urinary tract infections can mimic symptoms of incontinence and may increase its severity, a clinical evaluation of women with urinary incontinence includes a urinalysis, along with a physical exam, measurement of postvoid residue, and review of a bladder record.
In addition to diagnosis, this activity covers prevention of incontinence in patients with known risk factors, screening using specific questions, consultation if the underlying cause is uncertain or if the condition is complicated by other abnormalities, and non-drug and drug therapy.
