Asthma: An Update on Management
Asthma is the leading chronic illness of children in the United States, with highest prevalence among children 5-17 years of age. The prevalence rate is 46 percent higher for boys ages 0-17 compared to girls in the same age range. Interestingly, beyond childhood, women are more likely to develop asthma than men. This text-based activity presents current information on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and patient self-management of asthma. Upon completion, the participant will better understand the role of inflammation in the disease process and be able to list patient factors that support the diagnosis of asthma and describe the classification of asthma and the pharmacologic management for each category, as well as describe the role of patient education in asthma self-management. » Go to this activity
