A new patient with a first-degree relative recently diagnosed with glaucoma
For a new patient with a first-degree relative diagnosed with glaucoma, perform those tests that will best evaluate whether the patient currently has glaucoma or ocular hypertension and, if the patient does not have manifest glaucoma, determine the level of risk for developing glaucoma. Evaluate issues such as family history, ocular history, and impact of visual function on activity of daily issues.

Upon completion of this interactive case involving a 48-year-old patient who also has a more distant relative who lost sight to glaucoma, which, together, puts him at significant risk for the development of glaucoma, participants should be able to discuss common risk factors such as family history and lifestyle issues that contribute to the development of glaucoma and develop strategies to better monitor patient adherence to prescribed treatment regimens for the management of glaucoma.
